This year’s Ballance Farm Environment Awards finalists have been announced and out of 50 finalists across 11 regions, 20 are sheep and beef farmers.
Run by the New Zealand Farm Environment Trust (NZFET), the Ballance Farm Environment Awards (BFEA) celebrate good farm practices and promote sustainable land management.
Category award winners and the supreme winners will be announced at an Awards dinner in each region, starting with the East Coast on 4 March. Find more details and a full list of the finalists on NZFET’s website.
Through the BFEA programme, farmers and growers are invited to showcase, benchmark and improve their operations through a constructive process where agribusiness professionals provide feedback, recommendations, and commendations. The judges take a holistic approach to the feedback and award allocation process by evaluating every aspect of the farming/growing business from environmental management, productivity, and profitability through to family and community involvement.
“The Ballance Farm Environment Awards are a great way to celebrate good farming practices and help farmers improve the sustainability of their farming business. Also, it is a fantastic platform to share positive stories, ideas, and resources about sustainable farming with the public,” says Sam McIvor, B+LNZ’s CEO.
