This week’s notices:

Voting underway on foot and mouth disease agreement

Sheep and beef levypayers are being asked to show support for B+LNZ joining an Operational Agreement between the agricultural sector and the Government on foot and mouth disease readiness and response. Voting letters and supporting information are arriving in farmers’ mailboxes this week and it’s important that farmers read the information and have their say. Voting, which is conducted online using the unique PIN and password in your letter, will close at 2pm on Friday 16 May. More info at www.beeflambnz.com/fmd-vote.

B+LNZ says more detail needed on freshwater farm plans

This week the Government announced it is making progress on improving the freshwater farm plan system after it paused the rollout in September 2024. B+LNZ says while there are encouraging signs, a lot of detail is still missing, so concerns remain for sheep and beef farmers. We welcome aspects such as the commitment to ensuring freshwater farm plans will take the place of consents and other regulations, but the overall degree of comfort we have with the proposals will depend on the risk thresholds, what aspects of current regulations such as consents they replace and how onerous the contents of the plans will be. Read our media release.
