World Iron Awareness Week

We’re proud to support World Iron Awareness Week (14–20 October 2024). This year's theme, 'Iron to Move,' emphasises the crucial role of iron for active teenage girls. Get involved by sharing information (like this Facebook post) about the importance of iron and how NZ red meat is a rich source. B+LNZ Inc teamed up with Girl Skate NZ to host an event in Auckland, where young girls participated in skateboarding sessions, enjoyed a beef barbecue, and learned about the importance of getting enough iron.

Applications sought for key B+LNZ role in our region

We’re looking for an Economic Service Manager for the Southern South Island to work closely with sheep and beef survey farmers, collecting and analysing farm financial and production data to contribute to our annual survey and forecasting programme. You’ll need a tertiary qualification with an emphasis on farm management systems and financial account analysis, strong relationship building skills, excellent attention to detail and ideally previous experience in a farmer-facing role. Based in B+LNZ’s Dunedin office or possibly from home. Applications close Monday 21 October. See here for more info and to apply.

Update on recent Court of Appeal decision affecting all farming in Southland

B+LNZ, along with sector partners such as Federated Farmers and DairyNZ, supports Environment Southland’s moves to seek urgent changes to Section 70 of the Resource Management Act as part of the Government’s review of the RMA, following a recent Court of Appeal decision. This decision, relating to the incidental discharge of nutrients from farming activities, means that nearly all farming in the Southland region will need to be consented otherwise it will be illegal. This will affect nearly all farmers nationally and is hugely concerning. Indications from the Government are that they will address this issue. Farmers should note they don’t need to do anything at present and we will keep you updated.
