Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s Mastering Your Farm Financials Workshop proved popular with farmers wanting to better understand the financial side of their business. The workshop was part of last year’s Sow, Grow, Thrive webinar series.
Run in partnership with Farm Focus, the one-day workshops were held throughout the country over July and August and covered the tools required to complete a business health check, budgeting and identifying opportunities for business growth. Content also included how to understand financial reports and use Key Performance Indicators and benchmarking tools to drive productivity and profitability.
B+LNZ’s National Extension Programme Manager, Olivia Weatherburn, said feedback from the workshops, which complemented the Rabobank Financial Skills workshops, had been overwhelmingly positive, with the majority of attendees reporting that the workshops would have a positive effect on the performance of their farm business.
Weatherburn says this highlights the value of working in conjunction with specialist organisations such as Farm Focus and Rabobank to help farmers become more financially literate and confident in using the software tools available to help manage the financial side of their business.
“Beef + Lamb New Zealand has recognised that this is an area farmers often struggle with, so workshops such as these will play an important part in the organisation’s future extension activities.”
