Another successful year of the New Zealand Young Farmers AgriKidsNZ competition meant hundreds of children across the country experienced a taste of New Zealand’s food and fibre sector.
Seven regional competitions were held around the country including Northland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, East Coast, Taranaki/Manawatu, Tasman, Aorangi and Otago/Southland.
AgriKidsNZ contestants competed in teams of three where they were challenged to a range of practical modules based on the food and fibre sector.
The top three teams from each regional move to the Grand Final which will be held in Timaru, 6-8 July 2023.
The AgriKids competition is supported by Beef + Lamb New Zealand (B+LNZ) and runs alongside FMG Young Farmer of the Year and FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year.
B+LNZ’s National Programme Manager Olivia Weatherburn says the competition engages Primary School students from all backgrounds to learn about the agricultural sector and where food comes from.
“It’s a fantastic event that combines leadership, team building and learning in an interactive and engaging manner. It is very rewarding to see how excited kids get about our industry once they see some of its possibilities.”
